Even low sp characters are a considerable asset in this game. Making it F2P will allow every player to make an unlimited number of alts, and destabilize a number of game mechanics, like the market, logistics, mining, date eve online goes ftp, and, believe it or not, pvp everyone would just zerg the other guy with lowbe chars.

Besides, the implications in the other areas are way more desruptive than those in pvp. Limiting persons rather than accounts has been an excersise in futility for many games in the past.
IP adresses are dynamic, and can change or be faked, unique ids on the machine are also easy to alter. That said, while I doubt its feasability technically, your idea is good. Lack of new players is considered a problem by many eve players, and CCP has shown it's not afraid of innovative models the game already is kind of f2p but that option is targetet towards veterans rather than new players. The main problem I think is that something like that is sure to unbalance date eve online goes ftp game, and the emergant nature of eve makes predicting what will happen and combating it very difficult if date eve online goes ftp impossible.
To be honest I don't really understand why EVE has such a mechanic where "Level 1" players if given a big enough quantity could bring down a very high level player. Last edited by K9Boss ; 18 Apr, am. Well if that were true you'd effectively exclude younger players from pvping at all since the "cap" on combat skills is practically nonexistant while in a more traditional MMO you just have to reach level cap to try and kill someone on equal footing.
There's not really a mechanic in place, but a lack of one, like enforcing miss rates based on skill point difference. It's actually a very newbe-friendly system: even the newest character is an asset in pvp and not a liability for filling a slot suboptimally. But what is really scary about newbe characters isn't really using them in combat, but in logistics, scouting and cynos.
Having a newbe char in every system means you are very hard to ambush when travelling, and having them equipped with cynos means you can act as a destination for a combat fleet. Yeah, I guess it makes sense. I played the trial and in general although the learning curve was rather steep Very very very very steep and some skills made no sense, the game was fun.
